‘Cartoon Folk Artist’ Miss Mindy brings a whimsical and unique design twist to the self-proclaimed “Mistress of All Evil,” Maleficent from Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. Taking offense to not being invited to the Christening of Princess Aurora, the ruthlessly malicious fairy seeks revenge by cursing the young Aurora to everlasting sleep. Marvel at all the storytelling elements Miss Mindy has included in the design of this magnificent sculpture – Maleficent’s pale green skin, pointed chin, yellow eyes and iconic black horns rest atop her long flowing black and purple robes embellished with raised curved lines and swirls. Perched over the orb of her staff sits her pet raven Diablo casting an evil eye. Maleficent’s angular collar and the edges of her robe evoke the shape of bat wings and foretell her transformation into her dragon form. Look within the inset diorama to view the three good fairies – Flora, Fauna and Merryweather – concealed within the castle aiming to prevent the curse upon Aurora.
